Thespian, Musician, Freshman

Music and theater are pursuits for Nome resident Andrew Hafner. He’s starred in multiple productions of classic Shakespeare plays, knows how to play four instruments, and enjoys performing for his community. He’s only a high-school freshman.

Profiles of young people like Andrew are the focus of the monthly KNOM program “Caught Doing Something Good.”

In the interview with Andrew, which aired in August, listeners hear that he’s been “collecting instruments” (that is, learning how to play one instrument after another) since before he was ten. His experience playing the character of Puck in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” made him ideal for another role in the Nome production of “The Tempest” earlier this year (a show directed by KNOM volunteer fellow Gabe Colombo!). Stage fright is still present, even as a veteran actor, Andrew says — but the show must go on. He still performs, buoyed by “knowing that people will be entertained.”

Andrew’s story is available here, on KNOM’s website. Your support makes positive features like this one possible.
