An ordinance to allow sex offenders who are receiving treatment to be housed at the Seaside Center is on the Nome City Council’s agenda tonight.

During their 5:30pm work session, the Council plans to discuss updating the Nome Code of Ordinances to allow this change. Following the work session, two ordinances in the first reading phase will be addressed by the Council. One of them would allow correctional facilities that apply for a permit with the City to house sex offenders who are actively receiving treatment.

The other ordinance on the agenda would clarify who can serve as a member of Nome’s Port Commission. Currently, any Nome city voter is eligible, but the Council could allow any person, eighteen years or older, whose permanent residence is on the Nome road system to be eligible as a port commissioner.

During tonight’s regular meeting, the Council could approve the Port and Harbor Capital Improvements Plan for phase two of the Port’s development analysis. Also, former Councilman Tom Sparks is expected to be honored by a formal resolution for his twenty years of service to the City of Nome.

Tonight’s City Council work session begins at 5:30pm in City Hall, with the regular meeting scheduled to commence at 7pm.
