Nome youth Jonathan Outwater sits behind a radio microphone in the studio with KNOM volunteer Karen Trop.

Nome student Jonathan Outwater took a special interest in broadcasting during a recent tour of the KNOM studios.

He returned to learn more by spending two days in the broadcast world with volunteer Karen Trop. Says Karen, “I loved working with Jonathan; he was so patient… so receptive to everything I had to share. If his time spent shadowing me inspired him even a little bit… I will be the one who feels blessed.”

Karen makes time for working with youth through her responsibilities at KNOM. She’s given classroom presentations on broadcasting, produced youth radio spots (like “When I Am an Elder”), and led tours of KNOM for visiting students.

Thank you for making this friendly educational outreach possible!
