Elder Voices: Theresa Soolook

Theresa Soolook was born on Little Diomede in 1920. In this week’s rebroadcast of Elder Voices, she shares memories of growing up on the island.

Theresa remembers a time when people frequently went from Little Diomede to Nome by skin boat, and a time when travel between the islands of Little and Big Diomede was not yet restricted. She tells stories of Eskimo dancing, subsistence hunting, and experiencing racism at the hands of her white peers.

To hear more from Theresa herself, tune in to Elder Voices on Wednesday, June 21st, at 11am and 6pm. Elder Voices: a window to the past, a door to the future.
