Elder Voices: Roger Nassuk, Sr.

Koyuk, Alaska

Roger Nassuk, Sr., speaks in this week’s episode of Elder Voices, from a 2011 interview.

At 81 years old, he remembers his childhood growing up around Isaac’s Point, and then moving to Koyuk for school, where he was forbidden to speak his language.

Roger remembers stories from his grandmother and expresses the value of listening to elders. “They know what’s going on in the future,” he says.
