“Naliġaaniktuŋa!”

Voting stickers, Nome, 2014

With Alaska’s primary in August, city elections throughout the state in October, and the general election in November, there have been ample occasions for our listeners to exercise their democratic rights this fall.

A common sight in Nome and surrounding communities (especially on election days, of course) are the stickers above, proudly proclaiming “I Voted!” both in English and in the Alaska Native language of Iñupiaq (“Naliġaaniktuŋa!”).

Thanks to your support, KNOM continues to do its best to provide comprehensive and non-partisan, objective coverage of the electoral issues that impact the lives of our rural Alaska communities. To see our latest news stories on the vote in Alaska, visit our Vote 2014 site right here on knom.org.
