Windy, cold, and frosty this Thursday morning, the checkpoint of Cripple is the official half-way point of Iditarod’s northern route (followed in even years).

A stuffed sled dog toy, affixed to the front of Nicolas Petit’s sled, has been a companion for the musher all the way since Saturday’s Ceremonial Start. In Cripple, the toy bore a light dusting of frost.
