Nome-Golovin: Getting to Know the Racers

At this Thursday’s racer registration for the Nome-Golovin Snowmachine Race, the air was filled with talk of sleds (and sled modifications), family, sponsors, and, of course, cautious optimism for success at Saturday’s fast-paced competition.

KNOM’s John Francis, Danielle Sylvester, Leah Radde, and Linda Maack were on the scene, interviewing racers and getting a sense of the competitive field for 2010. Here are just a handful of the many racer profiles they collected:

In the A Class (601cc – open; will wear green bibs):

Jim West, Jr. of Nome (bib #42, riding an Arctic Cat F 1000 EXT):

Geoff Hubert of Nome (bib #51, riding a Polaris IQ 800):

Howard Farley, Jr. of Nome (bib #53, riding a Ski-Doo Renegade 600X):

In the B Class (0-600cc; will wear orange bibs):

Gerald Hughes of Nome (bib #18, riding a Polaris Shift):

Joe Fullwood of Nome (bib #20, riding a Polaris 600 Rush):

George Apatiki of Gambell (bib #83, riding a Polaris 600 Dragon SP):

In the C Class (fan-cooled; will wear yellow bibs):
