YUKON DELTA AK-LOWER YUKON VALLEY AK-
1125 AM AKDT TUE MAY 19 2009

...THE FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 530 PM AKDT WEDNESDAY
FOR THE YUKON RIVER FROM RUSSIAN MISSION TO PILOT STATION...

HIGH WATER ASSOCIATED WITH SPRING BREAKUP IS CAUSING FLOODING ALONG
THE YUKON RIVER BETWEEN RUSSIAN MISSION AND PILOT STATIONS. ICE JAMS ARE
BACKING UP WATER IN SOME AREAS. AS OF MONDAY LATE AFTERNOON THERE
WAS STILL CONSIDERABLE ICE IN THE YUKON AS FAR AS 30 MILES UPRIVER
FROM RUSSIAN MISSION.

AS OF TUESDAY MORNING AT RUSSIAN MISSION..THE RUNWAY OF THE AIRPORT
WAS UNDER WATER AND SEVERAL HOUSES ARE SURROUNDED BY WATER. AT
MARSHALL...THE AIRPORT REMAINS ACCESSIBLE ONLY BY BOAT. WATER WAS
BEGINNING TO COME OVER BANK AT THE LOWER END OF TOWN. WATER REMAINED
BELOW BANKFULL AT PILOT STATION AND LARGELY CLEAR OF ICE. AN ICE RUN IS
PROBABLY HELD UP AT DOG TOOTH BEND...ABOUT 5 MILES UPRIVER OF PILOT
STATION.

A FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING. WATER
LEVELS CAN RISE RAPIDLY AND PEOPLE ALONG THE RIVER ARE ENCOURAGED TI
MOVE PROPERTY TO HIGHER GROUND AWAY FROM THE RIVER BANK.
