Staff Sergeant Clint Whitney sang and played acoustic guitar with the Northern Lights.

Sunday night, the Air Force’s “Northern Lights” band performed in Nome. A six-piece ensemble featuring saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and guitar, the team of military musicians is traveling throughout our region as part of Operation Arctic Care. After spending last week and the weekend traveling in Kotzebue and Shismaref, they stopped in Nome before heading to Golovin today and Teller tomorrow.

The Northern Lights are are Staff Sergeant Tom Salyers on trumpet, Staff Sergeant Jeff Dall-sang on trombone, technical sergeant Dwight Wiest on baritone sax, technical sergeant Ricky Sweum on tenor sax, Master Sergeant retired Lon Throop on alto sax, and Staff Sergeant Clint Whitney, singing and playing acoustic guitar.

The Northern Lights will perform tonight (Monday, April 16), at the Golovin school gym at 7pm. On Tuesday, April 17, they’ll perform at the Teller school at 2:30 in the afternoon. As Operation Arctic Care begins to wrap up, the band will return home to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
