Big changes are in store for how the Norton Sound Health Corporation handles primary care. A new initiative, beginning this week, places a heavy focus on preventive care and on coordinating prevention methods with all members of a household using a new “family focused care” approach.

Dr. David Head is the Chief of Staff at Norton Sound. He says the overhaul of primary care is being promoted with a week of free health screenings in Nome, ranging from cholesterol and blood pressure tests to bone density scans for men and women over the age of 50. Dr. Head says that the week of free screenings helps reinforce the idea that healthcare should be a priority, no matter your state of health.

The free health screenings will be available all this week at the Norton Sound Hospital in the Outpatient Clinic lobby. In this Profile, Dr. Head talks about what's changing at Norton Sound, and how the hospital will focus on preventive care in both individuals and families.
