Nome’s Local Emergency Planning Commission, or LEPC, is working with the Nome Joint Utility Service to send out fall storm preparedness fliers with August utility statements. Using State of Alaska Department of Homeland Security LEPC grant funds, the fliers should start arriving in mailboxes this week. They list the essentials for a good emergency kit, such as how much food and water a person might need for a week, and what kind of tools and supplies should be included.

Charlie Lean, who has worked with Nome’s emergency services for over 35 years (even acting as the LEPC chairman in the past), shares his insight on just what's needed to be prepared.
