Harry Gallagher (right) was KNOM's first news director.

A television anchor, Harry took a year off from commercial TV to volunteer and create KNOM's news department, which produced the first regional and local radio news west of Anchorage.

Harry coined the phrase "KNOM Update News" and inagurated newscasts at :55 past the hour, a phrase and a schedule that remain in use today.

After leaving KNOM, Harry anchored for several TV stations, winding up at WXYZ-TV Detroit.  Tragically, he died of cancer at the age of 42.
