July 13, 2001 during KNOM's thirtieth anniversary
Mass, Fairbanks diocesan administrator Fr. Dick Case, SJ reads the names
of the seventeen KNOM volunteers who have died over the years. KNOM
inspiration director Lynette Schmidt lights floating candles in memory
of each of these volunteers:

Bro. Normand Berger, FIC. From Canton, OH, Brother Norm worked
as announcer and engineer from August 25, 1975 to July 17, 1985.

Martin P. Clarke. From Chicago, IL, Marty worked as radio
announcer from August 16, 1979 to August 1980.

Sue Boyle Cortte, from Chicago, IL. Sue was news reporter
and later news director, from August 19, 1977 to August 1990.

Catherine Cory, New Lebanon, OH. Cathy worked as a KNOM support
nurse from July 20, 1984 to October 19, 1985.

Anita Duenser. From Norridge, IL, Anita worked as KNOM secretary
between August 16, 1979 to July 13, 1982.

Harry Gallagher, Bala Cynwyd, PA. KNOM's founding news director,
Harry established the KNOM news department between 1971 and 1972.

Diana Gardenier. From Portland, OR, Diana was KNOM news reporter
from August 16, 1979 to July 12, 1980, when she died in a small plane crash
80 miles southeast of Nome.

Fr. Harold Greif, SJ. From Walla Walla, WA, Fr. Greif did
not work for KNOM, but as associate pastor of St. Joseph Parish, lived
and dined with KNOM volunteers for many years and is considered part of
the KNOM family.

Bro. John Huck, SJ, Yakima, WA. Bro. John supervised many
areas of KNOM construction and helped out with others from 1969 to 1970.

Bishop Michael Kaniecki, SJ. KNOM's owner and spiritual leader
from July 28, 1985 to August 6, 2000.

Ida Schilter Karlin. Ida was a support nurse for KNOM in 1970
and 1971.

Bro. Joseph LeComte, FIC. From Canton, OH, Bro. Joseph cooked
for the KNOM crew from January 2 through July 20, 1986.

Dr. Herbert Merz, MD served as support doctor for KNOM from 1977
to 1980.

Dennis Pikonganna. Born on King Island, Alaska, Dennis helped
part time with engineering and maintenance from 1970 to 1972.

Luella Poole, mother of KNOM founder Fr. Jim Poole, SJ. "Ma
Poole" worked as cook and surrogate grandma to volunteers from 1966 to
October 4, 1982.

Dephane Sporrer. From Klamath Falls, OR, Dephane was a KNOM
support nurse from August 31, 1978 to 1979.

Judy Talbot-Welborn, Alhambra, CA. Judy worked as KNOM support
nurse from August 1981 to April 1982.
