KNOM broadcasts approximately 34,000 inspirational spots per year.

A major component of the station's format, these spots are intended to inspire and uplift the listener, to console, to encourage prayer, and to provide encouragement and quiet advice.

They are sprinkled among the station's news, music and weather programming.

Since 1983, sample inspirational spots have been featured in every month's KNOM Nome Static newsletter.  Here are a few samples from over the years:

Liking people is one of the most important ingredients for getting the most out of life. If we like people, we have a zest and enthusiasm for work and for living. we give to others and in return we find ourselves getting a great deal from them. Once liking other people becomes a part of us, it will reward us, not only in our work, but in the sheer enjoyment of living.

When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he left his followers in a boat and went to a lonely place by himself. Christ understands how we feel when we lose a loved one. He felt the same way. He is willing to be our comfort and strength.

Did you every notice that some people make us feel so welcome when we visit them? They're really happy to have us come, and they express it to us by their smile, attention, and maybe a cup of coffee. It's great to feel welcome when we visit the homes of others. I wonder how welcome people feel when they visit my home?

When shades of night softly gather, I feel an overwhelming love for God, my dearest Friend.  He walks beside me in sunshine and in shadow.  He laughs with me through happy times, and takes away the pain when illness or sorrow try to tear my world to pieces.

Beautiful young people are accidents of nature.  Beautiful old people are works of art.

I asked for bread and received a stone.  I used the stone to grind the grain.  That made the flour to form the bread.  Instead of asking God to give us the things for which we pray, all that we need to ask is this:  show us the way.

When shades of night softly gather, I feel an overwhelming love for God, my dearest Friend.  He walks beside me in sunshine and in shadow.  He laughs with me through happy times, and takes away the pain when illness or sorrow try to tear my world to pieces.

A smile adds to your "face" value.

I am lonely today.  Yesterday's joys and loves seem gone.  The sun is shining, but I see only clouds.  Of all days, today is the day I need a friend. Would you give me a call, or drop in, or write me a line?  And then, with renewed courage, maybe tomorrow I can do the same for someone else.

Every great achievement in history was once considered impossible.  So many things have yet to be accomplished in our own lives, our own great achievements.  They look impossible.  But with God's help and our hard work, they can be done.

Look at your hands.  In this age of the machine, we're liable to forget how many things can be accomplished only by our hands.  Caress a child.  Pick a flower.  Comfort someone in sorrow, brush away a tear.  Hold another's hand.  Our hands are capable of so much good.

Time...a minute...an hour...a day...Perhaps the most valuable of all of our possessions. It flies by without ever stopping. The way we use our time determines our happiness, our success on earth...and how we will spend eternity.

Love does not live on words. Nor can it be explained by words, especially that love which serves God, which comes from God and which touches God. Perhaps by only a smile, a little visit, or simply building a fire for someone...a bit, a very tiny bit, it will be our love of God in action.

I'm weary, Lord, stretched thin, worn out. This servant is spent. But do not give me up for lost, Good Shepherd, gather me up just long enough so I can rest a while in your arms.

It's a lesson we spend a whole lifetime trying to learn. People need loving the most when they deserve it the least.

I don't know about you, but I feel really embarrassed when I realize how much God loves me and how little I love God.  So I turn to Him and ask His help and grace so I can grow in His love.  And you know what?  I think it's working!

That which becomes a habit is not far from being a necessity.  In the beginning, we make our habits.  In the end, our habits make us.

There is no law that will ever make it right, in God's eyes, to take the life of an unborn child.  Lord, help others find other choices, other courses of action, besides abortion.

Throughout the world, in nation after nation, men and women have died for their Christian faith.  The very least we can do is live for our faith.

Humility is truth.  It is not pretending to be what we are not.  It is realizing we are children of God, we receive our gifts from God and we owe everything we are to God.

Have you ever wondered whether what you are doing is right or wrong?  We all do.  It's not easy to figure it out all of the time.  That's one of the reasons I pray to the Lord each day.  And He's good at helping.

The elderly woman looked up from her sick bed, winked at me and said "Every night I turn all of my worries over to God."  Then she smiled.  "I figure He's going to be up all night anyway!"

Prayer begins by talking to God, and it ends by listening to Him.

Sometimes the Lord calms the storm, and sometimes He lets the storm rage, and then He calms us.  Both are equally wonderful miracles.

He has no hands but our hands to do His work today; He has no feet but our feet to lead others in His way.  He has no voice but our voice to tell others how He died; He has no help but our help to lead them to His side.

In our journey to heaven, going out of our way to help someone else is not considered a detour.  It may be the main road.

The sight of every dirty sock on the floor would be a blessing, if you were blind.  The sound of children arguing would be a blessing, if you were deaf.

Being able to mop the floor would be a blessing, if you were confined to a wheelchair.  Paying the bills would be a blessing, if you were unable to move your hands.

You can make every chore a prayer for someone who can't even complain about having to put up with them.

God sent you...enough joy to keep your heart singing...enough sorrow to make you understanding...enough hope to enrich your life...enough trials to keep you strong...enough leisure to refresh your spirit...enough love to make the world beautiful

I believe in the sun even when it's not shining.  I believe in love even when I can't feel it.  I believe in God, even when He is silent.

Live simply, so that others may simply live.

We should so live and labor in our time, that what came to us as a seed may go to the next generation as a blossom, and what came to us as a blossom may go to them as fruit.

I once broke my leg, Lord, and the doctors fixed me up as new.
But Lord, someone I deeply loved has badly hurt me, and I have found no one to help me heal and learn to forgive.  And so, I come to you, Lord.  Please help me heal, make me whole again inside.

Serenity and peace within us doesn't come from removing outward causes of worry and trouble.  There will always be some of those around.  Peace within comes from discovering God as our genuine source of happiness.

Life is very fragile.  Handle with prayer.

Dear friend, I just want you to know that when I count my blessings, I count you twice.

We don't have to scheme and labor to have God present in our daily lives.  He is already present, waiting to be discovered.

Relationships of love and truth are the words of healing for the human spirit.  There is no wound or hurt, no matter how deep, that cannot be gradually healed by a loving human relationship.

Feed your faith by prayer and all of your doubts will starve.

Can you think of ten persons or things you could thank God for?  Can you think of five?  Take time, right now, to thank Him for just one of them.

Faith is like a boomerang.  Use what you have and it will come back to you in greater measure.

Great occasions to serve God and His children come very seldom in our lives.  But little ones surround us each and every day.

What happens to us is not nearly as important as what happens through us.
