KNOM AM/FM Compliance with FCC EEO rules and regulations
Re: EEO Rules and Policies—Section VI. Outreach Requirements for Religious Broadcasters

…Among the potential candidates who are qualified based on their religious belief or affiliation, KNOM will consistently make good faith efforts to recruit without regard to race, color, national origin or gender. This includes recruitment, evaluation, selection, promotion, compensation, training and termination.

KNOM acknowledges that FCC licensed broadcast station licensees are required to afford equal employment opportunity to all qualified persons and to refrain from discriminating in employment and related benefits.

(See 47 C.F.R. Section 73.2080).

KNOM will broadcast two Alaska Broadcasters Association PSAs to complete two-point requirement and earn 'extra credits' by airing both Careers in Broadcasting and Alaska Broadcaster's Association Scholarship messages at least three (3) times per week on a continual basis.

"Careers in Broadcasting" is an innovative ABA concept and falls under Option Sixteen (16) earning one point for the participating broadcast station and categorized under, "any other activities not listed." The spots focus on broadcasting careers as a whole industry rather than just TV or radio. An industry website will be accessible for individuals seeking jobs in the radio industry in Alaska.

A copy of this EEO compliance report will be kept in the station's public file. Any mandatory report of activities is required to be placed in the station's public file and these actions are required to obtain license renewal.

In addition to the required EEO compliance measures stated above, KNOM voluntarily participates in Prong 3 employment outreach, thus contributing to efforts to create a diverse, qualified group of candidates for future broadcast jobs.

Mr. Frank Jazzo, ABA attorney, presented this concept idea to the FCC and the FCC representatives agreed that it would work for a full credit if the PSA were run two (2) to three (3) times per week.

"Linda Simmons Memorial Scholarship" is a scholarship program PSA directed at individuals desiring to pursue a career in broadcasting. This program qualifies under Option Seven (7), earning one point for the participating broadcast station, and directs listeners to the ABA website where applications can be downloaded, then sent to the ABA office in Anchorage, Alaska.

Job vacancies (if any) will be posted on the ABA website.

NASBA (National Alliance of State Broadcasting Associations) has a career page at www.careerpage.com. Job vacancies posted to the ABA website will automatically be posted to this site.

ABA will participate in several career fairs generating interest in further career information, Broadcast internships and Scholarship information.

These planned and directed activities earn credits for the two point level of Prong 3 outreach as agreed to by the FCC, and is voluntary on the part of the licensee for KNOM AM and KNOM FM.
